PANJIM: Sirvodem Sports Club joined Sporting Clube de Goa to enter the semi-finals from group A after defeating FC Youth Futsal Academy in the Goa Football Association State Futsal Championship, at Chowgule Futsal Arena, at Gogol.
It was an end-to-end battle throughout the game, as both sides were eyeing qualifications. Sirvodem SC were, however, first to take the lead from Frenden Pires. Playing quick football, both sides created plenty of chances, but both keepers stood their guard.
However, a defensive lapse saw YFA level terms just before the break through Arnold Oliveira. Augustin D’Mello had pulled off two stunning double saves before Chadel Fernandes made a silly mistake in the box, which conceded the equaliser.
In the second half, Sirvodem SC started on the attacking terms and scored a goal through Chadel, whose shot gave no chance for the YFA keeper, 2-1.
Frenden Pires made it 3-1 before Calburn Fernandes pulled a goal back for YFA.
In the second match, Sporting Clube de Goa maintained their 100 per cent win record in the competition with an emphatic 5-1 win over Youth Club of Manora.
It was Manora who took the lead first in the game when Manjunath Rathod’s fierce shot from the tight angle gave no chance for Sporting keeper Ozen Silva.
But the Flaming Oranje soon took control of the game scoring thrice before the break through Marcus Mascarenhas, Loston Cardozo and Valmiky Miranda.
Crossing over, Valmiky Miranda scored his second. However, the final goal was a brilliant move by Ozen Silva, who dribbled past the Manora players and set up Marcus, who made no mistake to score the team’s fifth goal.
