Sporting Clube storm past Curtorim Gymkhana

Move to top spot in the standings with 26 points; Curtorim Gymkhana yet to open their account after 12 rounds

MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa had an easy day out, scoring a comfortable 3-0 victory over Curtorim Gymkhana in the Round 12 match of the Goa Pro League, at Duler Stadium, here, on Saturday.
Sporting had hammered Curtorim by a 5-1 margin in their first leg encounter.
With today’s victory Sporting have taken the top position in the league with 26 points while Curtorim are still struggling at the bottom of the league table with no points to their kitty.
Sporting led by two goals at halftime, with Rowlin Borges firing in both from the penalty spot.
Crossing over continued with their domination and went on to further increase the lead, where in the 57th minute Ganesh Thakur on collecting the ball inside the danger zone, drilled a powerful grounder which crashed into the Curtorim nylons, 3-0.
Sporting could have killed of the match with an ever bigger margin however they failed to convert from the opportunities that they created.
In the 76th minute James Fernandes saw his effort ricochet off the post and then Curtorim substitute keeper Hanslum Furtardo thwarted Sumeet Passi in a one to one situation.
In the closing stages of the match James Fernandes and Ganesh Thakur failed to net home the ball from hand-shaking distance.
