Sporting Clube thrash New Friends Club, go atop

MAPUSA: Sporting Clube de Goa ran riot over New Friends Club, Dantewada, 10-0 in the AIFF Third Division League match played at Lake City University ground, on Monday.

Ivan Costa smashed in a hat-trick for the winners while Lloyd Cardozo showcased his goal-scoring prowess by not only converting a penalty in the 47th minute but also setting the tone with an early goal in the 6th minute. The duo’s combination play and striking instincts were pivotal in Sporting Clube’s relentless attacking onslaught.

Sporting Clube dictated terms at the very start with Samuel Costa narrowly missing a sitter from a precise pass from Lloyd Cardozo and in the very next minute Lloyd himself missed a golden opportunity created by Siddhart Kundaikar.

However, it didn’t take long for Sporting Clube to break the deadlock. In the 6th minute, Samuel Costa initiated a brilliant sequence, passing to Ivan Costa who then set up Lloyd Cardozo to open the scoring with finesse, 1-0.

The action-packed first half saw Sporting Clube earn a penalty in the 10th minute, courtesy of Lloyd’s shot being handled by New Friends’ defender Karan Kumar. Despite the initial setback, the opponent’s keeper, Naveen, heroically saved Adil Khan’s tame penalty effort. Adil Khan had another chance in the 13th minute, but he failed to tap home from close and meekly taped into the waiting hands of Naveen in goal.

Sporting Clube continued to dominate, extending their lead in the 27th minute as Joyson Gauncar capitalised on Lloyd’s pass. The third goal came in the 35th minute when Joel Colaco delivered a precise cross, allowing Marcus Mascarenhas to head home confidently. Just before the first-half whistle, Joyson Coutinho sent in a cross from the right wing, which was sent home by Ivan making it 4-0.

On crossing ends, Sporting Clube maintained their attacking prowess, wherein the 47th minute, Joyson Coutinho was brought down in the penalty area, leading to a penalty that Lloyd converted with precision.

Sporting Clube continued their goal-scoring spree in the 54th minute when Darjee Biswa’s accurate cross found Joel Colaco, adding to the misery of New Friends Club.

The match reached a crescendo with Sporting Clube’s fluid and beautiful play in the 79th minute. A brilliant combination between Ivan, Samuel and Biswa Darjee resulted in a cross converted by Joyson Gauncar. A Biswa’s cross in the 79th minute found Ivan, who scored his second goal, followed by Lloyd Mascarenhas contributing to the scoreline after receiving a pass from Samuel.

The icing on the cake came in the final minutes as a long ball from Samuel to Chandan Gawas, who then passed to Ivan, completed his hat-trick, sealing the emphatic 10-0 victory for Sporting Clube de Goa.

With three matches played, Sporting Clube leads the table with seven points, followed by Lake City FC, who are on four points from two games. ARA FC are with three points from two matches, IFC are with three points from three matches while NFC are with no points from two matches.

At VMC Sport Complex, Jaipur Elite Football Club was held to a goalless draw by Klasa FC. Two players from Goa, Alesh Sawant and Umesh Pujari don the colours for Jaipur unit and excelled by playing for the full time of the regulation time.
