MAPUSA: A 53rd minute strike from Trijoy Dias enabled Sporting Clube de Goa to register a solitary goal win over Churchill Brothers Sports Club in the GFA’s Taca Goa U-20 league organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler stadium, on Saturday.
The first half was a dull affair with both the teams restricting play inside the midfield territory, with both the keepers having almost a field day.
It was some fine defending by Sporting’s stopper backs Kunal Kundoikar and Schubert D’Costa that gave very little room for the Churchill Brothers lads to operate.
At the other end it was stopper backs Sam Palha, skipper Amit Bisht along with keeper Wasim Khan were equal to the task as they restricted Sporting Clube strikers Ronald Martins and Chandan Gawas to create any damage in the first half.
Both the teams went into the breather without any score.
Sporting came close in opening their score line five minutes before the breather, where a firm header from Ronald Martins rebounded off the crosspiece.
On resumption of play, Sporting unit time and again attacked the rival citadel in search of a goal, where in the very 46th minute Alston Camotio’s corner was swayed to safety by Churchill keeper Wasim Khan.
Finally after much probing Sporting colts shot surged ahead in the 53rd minute through substitute Trijoy Dias who dribbled past a host of rival defenders and scored.
After play once again being restricted to midfield the Flaming Oranje came close to further inflate their lead in the 75th minute, when Alston Camotio from the left flank sent a cross at the far post to overlapping Myron Fernandes who was a bit too late to tap the ball home.
Churchill Brothers tried their best to find the equaliser but failed on many occasions to convertthe chances that were created.
Just a minute before the whistle, Sporting’s Trijoy Dias and Churchill Brothers Amit Bisht were sent off with red card booking by the referee for fighting with each other.
