With almost half of the squad left for I-League experience, Sporting Clube were left with their youth players who are promoted to the first team. Undeniably the side has produced some fine talent but this season they have unfolded many new upcoming players.
Alton Vaz is surely one of them. The lanky defender who plays at centre back has put in impressive performances in their last four games.
Ever since his performance in the Police Cup, the defender has cemented his place in the starting XI. The shy and soft spoke lad believes there is no room for excuses of mistakes when playing as the last man. Very strong in aerial duels, daring in tackles and timely interceptions, Alton has managed to impress the coach and manager in the team.
Sporting are yet to concede a goal in the Goa Pro League thanks to their strong defense of Alton, Joseph Clement, George and Brandon.
When the side were lacking goals, Alton showed the urgency in going forward in getting goals. The lad paired up with Peter Carvalho for the team’s first goal, on Saturday. Though having a different yet unique style of his own in the game, the defender is proving to be the find of the GPL.
