PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa slumped to their second consecutive defeat thus suffering a huge blow in their title defence after their 1-2 loss against Salgaocar FC at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Sunday.
The defeat left Flaming Oranje on 24 points from 14 games while Dempo SC lead the table with 29 points from 13 games. Meanwhile Salgaocar FC climb to second spot with 25 points from 14 games.
Salgaocar FC scored both goals in the first session through Smaiel Costa and Mark Carvalho while SCG pulled a late goal through Lloyd Cardozo.
Riding on their rich form, the Green Brigade took an early fourth minute lead from a set-piece where Samuel drilled it past the wall and the keeper to give his team an early advantage.
With the game restricted to end to end battle, there wasn’t much to offer in the first session till the 43rd minute when Salgaocar FC doubled the account. Salgaocar FC initiated a brilliant move where Krishnanath Shirodkar on getting a pass from the midfield sent in an inch-perfect cross the Mark, who made no mistake in placing the ball at the back of the net.
Sporting Clube managed to pull a goal back in the 87th minute when Cliva Miranda set up Lloyd Cardozo and the latter scored with ease to make it 1-2.
