Sports Minister reviews Nat Games preparations

NAVELIM: With the National Games fast approaching, Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar reviewed the preparations of the organisations of the Games which will commence in the State from November 4.

NAVELIM: With the National Games fast approaching, Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar reviewed the preparations of the organisations of the Games which will commence in the State from November 4.
Speaking to media, Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar said, “The preparations for the games are going in full swing.”
“As many as 32 events of sports would be organised at 32 different places all around the state for the games. Six new games will also be included,” he added.
Azgaonkar inquired with the officials — Mahesh Kumar, chairman GTDC of IOA, Gurudutta Bhakta and other concerned Government department officials at Fatorda –the progress on renovation of old infrastructure and new infrastructure works being carried out at various places.
Indoor Stadium at Sonalvaddo, Pernem and other Indoor Stadiums at Campal, Mapusa and Ponda, Squash centre, Chicalim, cycling aerodrome at Fatorda and wrestling, taekwando at Talconda are in line for a makeover.
With just seven months to go, Azgaonkar asked the contractors to complete the tasks atleast 2-3 months prior to the Games.
Babu disclosed that appointment of sub-committee and organising committee has been done.
The minister hoped for the Goan players to move forward with this games.
“By organising this type of National games we also get international level infrastructure, like stadiums, swimming pools etc,” he said.
While Mukesh Kumar the IOA, GTDC Chairman said this is his third visit to Goa to oversee the developments and expressed his happiness and satisfaction over the work which has been carried out.
VM Prabhudesai disclosed that they would consider about 10 per cent for tribal allotment.
He disclosed that nearly 450 cr will be spent which includes for infrastructure,  buildings, equipments and accommodations of nearly 10,000 participants and IOA officials.
