PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar presented the Bakshi Bahaddar Jivabadada Kerkar Awards to 22 players and eight organisers at a function organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs in the NIO Auditorium, Dona Paula, on Thursday.
Savio Medeira (Football), Pankaj Naik (Badminton), Pallavi Naik (Yachting), Alvito D’Cunha (Football), Vidya Satarkar (Baseball), Samir Subash Naik (Football), Maymol Rockey (Football), Kailash Gaonkar (Baseball), Priscilla Dias (Taekwondo), Siddhesh Naik (Baseball), Uvena Fernandes (Football), Mahesh Gawli (Football), Geeta Borkar (Baseball), Adelia Fernandes (Taekwondo), Praveenkumar Shirodkar (Boxing), Vidhya Fatu Bandekar (Boxing), Santosh Harijan (Boxing), Harmalkar Dayanand Surya (Body Building), Siraj Khan (Taekwondo), Deeplaxmi Avati (Baseball), Sheela Naik (Athletics), Premanand Gaonkar (Boxing) was awarded posthumously in the players category.
Whereas in the organisers category, Anil Madgaonkar (Swimming), Anil Kamat (Football), Vero Nunes (Table Tennis), Savio Messias (Football), Leonardo alias Lenny D’Gama (Boxing), Rajendra Mangeshkar (Taekwondo), Ashesh Keni (Chess) and Gokuldas Shirodkar (Kho-kho) were awarded.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister congratulated the awardees and wished them good luck in their future endeavors, “Sports have immense importance in our lives and the Government will leave no stone unturned in its infrastructural development. Good play and achieving medals should be the ultimate aim of the player as well its organizers,” he said.
Sports Minister, Azgaonkar said that the Government will strive towards providing best facilities to the players. He also urged the awardees to guide and encourage young sportsmen and women to perform well and achieve great heights.
Minister for Sports Manohar Azgaonkar, Director of Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs V.M. Prabhudessai and Assistant Director Gurudas Verenkar were present on the occasion.
The award consists of a Bronze plaque, a certificate and a sum of Rs 25,000. The awards from the year 2002 to 2014 were presented.
