Spring Boys emerge champions in Davorlim inter-village open football

RAIA: Spring Boys, Mandopa, defeated Curtorim Boys 3-2 in the final to clinch the 4th All-Goa inter-village open football tournament organised by Davorlim Sports and Cultural Club, at Davorlim Club ground, Laymati, on Sunday. 

It was an excellent contest between the Spring Boys and Curtorim Boys in front of the large Sunday crowd. Curtorim Boys open the scoreline in the 10th minute of game through Milagres Fernandes, while Costa of Spring Boys equalised in the 24th minute with a powerful header from a corner kick. 

At half time, the score remained 1-1. After resumption of play, Curtorim Boys coach Rosario Hilario changed the game plan but failed to get the desired results.

Spring Boys scored two goals in the 43rd and 47th minute through Mallappa and Prestly, while Curtorim Boys pulled one goal back in the dying minutes of the game through joy.

Winners Spring Boys received Rs 40,000 plus trophy, while runners-up Curtorim Boys had to settle with Rs 30,000 plus trophy. 

Social worker Anthony Colaco (MPT) was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Peter Gonsalves, Fr Domigos Noronha, Francisco, Nicolau, Adv Prasad, PSI Stanley Gomes and other dignitaries.

Caitan Costa welcomed the guest, while Filomena Costa compered.
