PARODA: St Anne’s Institute, Agonda–Canacona shocked defending champions Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda 4-3 via the tie-breaker to cruise into the quarter-finals of the 2nd All Goa Late Ramnath D. Volvotkar Memorial U-17 inter-school football tournament organized by ‘Insight’ the Society in association Damodar High School and Damodar Higher Secondary School at Gudi – Paroda ground, on Tuesday.
Both the teams i.e. OL of Rosary HS and St Anne’s Institute played good brand of football but missed scoring chances.
OL of Rosary HS missed scoring opportunities through Jordon Borges and Vilroy Faleiro while Floy Fernandes and Dickson Fernandes from St Anne’s also failed to score at crucial juncture.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Dickson Fernandes, Avish Pagi, Rohit Naik and Floy Fernandes were on target for St Anne’s Institute while only Michael Dias, Rahul Sharma and Gaurav Bhandari found the mark for OL of Rosary HS, Fatorda. Floy Fernandes of St Anne’s Institute was awarded as player-of-the-match.
Earlier, Rosary High School, Navelim scored a solitary goal win over Auxillium HS of Benaulim and moved into the quarter-finals.
The all important goal of the match was scored by Cruff Fernandes off a pass from Azan Mulla. Auxillium HS increased the pace of the match in the last ten minutes but Rosary HS’s defended well.
Adarsh Raj of Rosary HS – Navelim was adjudged as player-of-the-match.
