RAIA: St Anthony’s SC, Colva, had to sweat it out to defeat host Sao Jose de Areal SC 2-1 to enter into the quarter-finals of Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Sao Jose de Areal SC, at Padribhat ground, on Friday.
It was Sao Jose de Areal SC that took the lead in the 20th minute of play through Navil Fernandes. St Anthony’s SC equalised as Referee Jose Rebello awarded spot-kick after the defender of Sao Jose de Areal SC handled the ball in the box. Baptist Fernandes converted the spot-kick.
Sao Jose de Areal SC dominated most part of the match thereafter, but missed scoring chances through Navil Fernandes and Vanael Travasso. The all-important goal of the match was scored by Jovi Fernandes who easily outwitted Sao Jose de Areal SC Goalkeeper Joseph Monteiro in the last minute of the match. St Anthony’s SC goalkeeper Valerian D’Sa was declared as man-of-the-match for his excellent skills in the goalkeeping. GFA referee Mariano Valadares presented man-of-the-award to St Anthony’s SC, Colva, goalkeeper Valerian D’Sa.
