MAPUSA: St Anthony’s Sports Club Marna scored a thrilling 5-3 win over Saligao Sporting Club in the GFA’s 2nd Division League, organised by GFA, played at Duler Stadium, here on Thursday.
Marna who had better chances their rivals were leading 2-0 at half time through Vidhesh Sawant (29th min) and Vasudev Agarwadekar (35th minute)
Marna applied high-press tactics should have been ahead in the 1st minute when Siddharth Shirodkar punished Saligao defence but only with keeper Raul at his mercy shot wide.
Minutes later, Claudio rasping drive hit the Saligao woodwork after been teed up by Videsh. Saligao had their chance but were unlucky when in the 33rd minute Melisto Nunes fierce shot struck the upright.
Marna`s third goal on crossing ends was a gift as Saligao keeper Raul Holkar miss clearance was tapped into the nets by Vipul Pednekar without any hesitation.
Sangam Pednekar then settled the match for Marna by scoring the fourth goal with a clever placement.
However Saligao Sporting did not lay back and Chandan Govekar hattrick brought them right back into the match with Ajay providing the assist on all the occasions to set up a tense finish, 4-3.
Marna held their nerves and scored their fifth goal when a long cross by Kashiram Pompurphekar from the left flank surprisingly crept into the goal after hitting the far goal post , 5-3.
In another match played at Sirsaim ground, Sinquerim Sports Club twice came from behind to hold Assonora United Football Club.
There was no score at the break. Assonora took the lead in the 64th minute through Sairaj Halarnkar and Sinquerim soon equalised through Pratik Tirodkar. Sairaj once again gave his side the lead in the 87th minute only to see his effort cancelled out by Salil Parwar in the second half injury time.
