SANKHALIM: St Anthony Sports Club, Marna, Siolim defeated Dunes Sports Club 4-2 to move into the semi-final of the late Mussa Ali Aga all Goa inter-village football tournament organised by Eagle Sports Club, Sankhalim at Sesa FA Ground, Virdim on Sunday.
The match started with an end-to-end affairs where Marna side made some potent attacks on the rivals but Dunes keeper Jorden Fernandes kept every danger at the bay with brilliant saves.
However, some defensive laps in the dying minutes of the first session allowed Marna side to take the lead as Kashiram Pombuphekar slotted the ball home from a free-kick to open the account in the 34th minute. Kashiram doubled the lead for Marna in the 40th minute with a neat finish from inside the box.
Energised by two quick goals, St Anthony SC further extended their lead just before the halftime whistle through Mayuresh Naik’s clinical finish from close to make it 3-0.
Sonu Mandrekar added his name to the scoresheet in the early second half as he made no mistake from the point-blank range to put the ball into the nets making it 4-0 for the Marna side, in the 46th minute.
At the other end, Pratik Kanaik of Dunes SC came off the bench to reduce the margin for his side with a brilliant goal from inside the 6-yard-box to make it 1-4 in the 49th minute. A few minutes later, Pratik further reduce the margin for his side when he made a individual run from halfway line before dribbling past on-rushing rival keeper and calmly finishing the ball in empty net making it 2-4.
