MARGAO: St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda registered a solitary goal victory over Ambelim Sports Club 1-0 to move into the semi-finals of the 3rd St Sebastian Union Club inter-village football tournament in memory of late Ciabro Alemao organized by St Sebastian Union Club, at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Monday. There was no score at half time.
In the first half, the teams dominated the proceedings. Ambelim SC tried to score in the 13th minute through Michael Silva but the latter’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper of St Anthony SC off an assist by Jade Colaco.
St Anthony SC in the 20th minute tried to attack through Stanley Hadaquali’s ground shot but the latter’s effort hit the goal post and went out of play.
Thereafter, Ambelim SC’s Michael Silva made a daunting run in the rival territory but his move was foiled by the defence of Assolda off a cross by Donald Rocha.
Soon, Ambelim SC’s Perryson Fernandes’ header missed the target.
Crossing over, the teams dominated but failed to score.
Finally, St Anthony SC broke the deadlock in the 55th minute through Succoro Fernandes’ free-kick.
