PANJIM: St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim, defeated ABC Sports Club, Arambol, 2-0 to enter the finals of 23rd Vagator Soccer at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club ground, Sunday.
St Anthony’s took the lead just before half time as a square pass from Kashiram Poburpekar went to Pushparaj Mandrekar who placed it in.
After the break, St Anthony looked more threatening and they had several opportunities to increase the scoreline in the 39th and 42nd minutes. Kashiram Pomburpekar put Pushparaj Mandrekar through, but on both occasions he fumbled.
Thereafter, a corner taken by Videsh Sawant was converted by Pushparaj Mandrekar.
ABC’ Reneil D’mello missed to score in the 53rd minute as his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Sudhin Shirodkar.
St Anthony’s had yet another chance to score as Kashiram Pomburpekar dodged past a host of defenders and set up Pushparaj whose shot was saved by Arambol custodian Jordan Fernandes in the 57th minute.
ABC Arambol tried to score and Reniel D’Mello’s try was saved by Siolim goalkeeper Sudhin Shirodkar.
In the 69th minute, Arun Naik of Arambol caught the Siolim goalkeeper off guard as he lofted a ball over but luck did not favour them as the ball hit the woodwork.
The man-of-the match trophy was awarded to Kashiram Pomburpekar of St Anthony’s by Franky Viegas.
