St Anthony’s Marna snatch victory against PVC Parra

MAPUSA: Sherwin Lobo`s stunning goal enabled St Anthony’s Marna register a 2-1 win one PVC Parra in the fifth-round match of the GFA’s 2nd Division league, at Duler Stadium here on Thursday.

St Anthony`s Marna were leading 1-0 at the end of first half with the goal coming from Vipul Pednekar.

PVA Parra need to thank their keeper Dietmar Fernandes who was unbeatable for most part of the match as he frustrated the Marna attackers Vipul Pednekar and Mayuresh Naik with outstanding saves.

In the 7th minute Marna were unlucky not to be ahead when Pushparaj Mandrekar`s vicious 25-yard shot banged the crossbar and came back into play.

Parra too had a decent chance of going ahead in the 16th minute but Clayton Dias run from a through pass by Mandar was timely checked by the advancing Marna keeper Vinit Agarwadekar before any damage could be done.

In the 20th minute Marna lost their influential striker Pushparaj Mandrekar to injury after clashing with Parra’s Mandar Fadte.

However, Marna responded strongly and broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through Vipul Pednekar who after outfoxing Parra defender Mandar drilled the ball into the net, 1-0

Marna scuffed a golden chance of doubling their lead five minutes before the half time whistle through Mayuresh who could not get past keeper Dietmar in one to one situation.

Changing end, Parra started aggressively to get back on terms and nearly succeeded but Clayton Dias well struck shot off a pass from Veron Pereira was well stopped Marna’s keeper Vinit Agarwadekar.

Parra should have made it 1-1 in the 64th minute when they were awarded a penalty by referee Shivram Thanekar after a free-kick by Sankesh Harmalkar saw Osmiro Trindade’s header being handled by Marna’s defender Claudio Rodrigues inside the penalty box. Waldren Martins who stepped forward saw his spot kick being brilliantly stopped by Marna’s keeper Vinit.

Parra kept pushing men forward and their efforts were rewarded when Waldren Martins got them level on terms with a cracking left footed shot which this time gave no chance to Marna’s keeper Vinit, 1-0

Just when it looked the points would be shared between both teams Sherwin Lobo struck a dagger into the hearts of Parra lads in the 93rd minute by curling a free-kick which nestled into the net with keeper Dietmar stranded to his spot, 2-1.
