St Anthony’s SC clinch 27th Super Soccer cup

Sunny, Joseph and Kevin score in the tie-breaker to down SC Davorlim 3-2 in final

BENAULIM: St.Anthony SC Assolda defeated SC Davorlim 3-2 via tie-breaker to lift the trophy in the finals of the 27th Super Soccer inter-village football tournament, at the St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Sunday.
Right from the kick off whistle both teams sprang into action displaying an attacking brand of football. St Anthony SC went all out with a well supply of ball from all their departments. SC Davorlim throughout the match remained leaving no room for the rival players to score.
St Anthony SC began their attacking moves through Sunny Fernandes, Rosario Fernandes and Succor Fernandes whereas SC Davorlim began its attacking force through Joel Colaco, Mark Borges and Joemack Colaco in the forefront.
St Anthony SC had a chance to score in the 4th minute of play when Christo Fernandes got beyond the defender, Romeo Colaco of SC Davorlim and squared the ball to Succor Fernandes who shot wide.
Thereafter SC Davorlim made two dangerous attempts in quick succession both of which were denied by alert reflexes of St Antony SC goalkeeper Bacher Fernandes.
The deadlock for St.Anthony SC should have been broken through Benson Fernandes’ hard work in the 8th minutes of play when Micky Fernandes worked out a tricky set piece which hit the SC Davorlim goalpost.
After the lemon break both the teams began afresh creating opening chances in the rival defence. Sunny Fernandes of St Anthony SC had a chance to score in the 39th minute but shot blindly while later SC Davorlim’s Mark Borges shot wide.
At the end of the final regulation time it was a goalless draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker St.Anthony SC netted through Sunny Fernandes, Joseph Fernandes and Kevin Vaz while SC Davorlim netted through Romeo Colaco and Regan Furtado.
Sunny Fernandes of St.Anthony SC Assolda scored a 7goals throughout the tournament and was awarded and won 3 caps awards and man of the final and player of the tournament.
At the end of the match the following prizes were awarded – Best Defender Milton Rocha (SC Davorlim), Best Mid-fielder Succor Fernandes (St. Anthony SC), Best Goalkeeper Sachin Astekar (SC Davorlim) , and Best Striker Mark Borges (SC Davorlim) 1st goal of the final Romeo Colaco (SC Davorlim).
Chief Guest former chief minister Churchill Alemao handed the winner’s trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 40, 000, while the Guest of Honour Sarpanch of Cana-Benaulim Remy Fernandes, gave away the Runners up trophy and cash prize of Rs. 30,000.
President of the club gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of other dignatries. Sanford Braganza welcomed the guests, while Amilcar Pereira and Dalo Goes introduced the guests to the players Rocky Goes gave the vote of thanks while Franky Fernandes compered.
