PANJIM: The Under-14 boys team of Chowgule Education Society’s St Joseph Institute, Vasco Da Gama were crowned State champions at the chess tournament conducted by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, at Youth Hostel, Mira Mar, recently.
They outsmarted Sharda Mandir High School, Mira Mar 3-1 in the final. It was a hard fought victory which kept every spectator on their toes till the very end.
The winning team consisted of Anirudh Parsekar, Rudresh Fadte, Sahil Desai, Akhilesh Nigalye and Swayam Naik.
Earlier, the Under-14 girls team of St Joseph Institute had to be content with the third place. The team members consisted of Pranali Naik, Isha Shirodkar, Sahana Goudar, Manali Naik and Arya Haldankar.
