PANJIM: St Khuris Boys displayed sublime class to outwit their semi-final opponents Damon Tigers 5-0 in the Raia Inter-Ward Trophy 2016 organized by Youth Club of Raia, at Raia panchayat ground.
The highlight of the day was two braces by Rahul Dias and Bosco Fernandes.
In the first half, both the teams displayed equally good performances and the very first chance came to Damon Tigers. A corner kick taken by Maurice Fernandes wasn’t handled well by the rival goalkeeper and the resultant loose ball fell to Edsel Rodrigues, whose header hit the woodwork.
Despite dominating the processing, St Khuris Boys couldn’t quiet convert their chances into goals.
At the stroke of half-time, the score was tied 0-0.
The second half brought about resurgence in the St Khuris Boys. Just five minutes into play, they took the lead. Bosco took a well measured free kick right next to the Damon goalkeeper Rodney Soares who fumbled with the ball allowing right back Shelton Pinheiro to slot the ball past an empty net.
Bosco made it 2-0 when his rasping shot hit the back of the net giving no chance to the rival keeper. In 10 minutes, striker Rahul scored two quick goals to make it 4-0 in favour of St Khuris Boys.
Damon Tigers did get an opportunity to earn at least a consolation goal when they were awarded a penalty as Bosco brought down a Damon player in the penalty area but the resultant penalty was missed by Daniel Gomes.
With just five minutes remaining Bosco made amends for his earlier mistake and scored a brace to make it 5-0 for St Khuris Boys. Vicky Fernandes was awarded man-of-the-match for his witty performance.
