PANJIM: A brace from Ajay Diwadkar and Kanan Priolkar helped St Mathias Sports Club, Divar to outplay Davorlim Boys 5-2 and book the semi-finals berth in London Cup football tournament organised by Siridao Boys, at River Plate Siridao Sports Club ground, on Sunday.
At half time, St Mathias Sports Club were leading 2-1. They dominated the proceeding from the beginning and had the first look at the rival goal in the 10th minute when Kanan skilfully fed Ajay the ball, who in turn beat the rival goalkeeper hands down to net in.
Davorlim boys soon mounted the pressure on St Mathias and equalized through Agnelo, who made no mistake to send in a power-packed shot.
With the equaliser, the match went into a fast pace as both the sides tried to dominate each other and looked to gain lead.
But it was St Mathias who made some good moves, with Ajay this time assisting Kanan to double the lead in the 29th minute.
Crossing over, Davorlim boys regrouped with renewed ideas and had the upper hand for most of the time. Joenck after sometime brought the team on level terms in the 49th minute.
Disappointed with the equaliser again, St Mathias mounted pressure on the rival citadel.
Davorlim boys could not contain the rivals’ frequent attacks. Mathew netted the third goal by tapping off a beautiful cross taken by Ajay in the 59th minute. Ajay immediately scored his second to complete his brace.
Davorlim boys made couple of attempts in the rival goal but St Mathias goalkeeper Jason D’Mello stood like a solid rock under the bar, thwarting their efforts.
Kanan in the dying minutes rounded off the tally after receiving a pass from Remus Gomes to make it 5-2.
