PANJIM: St Rita High School, Colvale and Kendriya Vidyalaya, INS Mandovi, Verem registered victories in their respective matches to move ahead in the Germania Trophy inter-school cricket tournament, organized by Panjim Gymkhana, at Panjim Gymkhana ground, here, on Tuesday.
In the first match, St Rita grounded People’s High School by 48 runs.
People’s won the toss and elected to field as their opponents posted 130/9 in 20 overs. Piyush Yadav (54) and Vithal Gawas (11) were the major run getters. Hitesh Talwar and Siham Mandrekar picked up two wickets each. In reply, People’s were bowled out for 82 in 17.3 overs. Rohit Fadte was the star performer with figures of 17/4. Sairaj Parab and Gauresh Malik clinched two wickets each.
In the second match, Sarvodaya HS, Curchorem went down to Kendriya Vidyalaya by eight wickets. Kendriya Vidalaya won the toss and elected to field. Sarvodaya posted 149 in 20 overs. Prasad Raikar (28), Sanjit Naik (29) and Aniket Saha (21) performed well.
In reply, the winners chased the total in 16.2 overs, loosing only two wickets. Shameek D’Silva was simply unstoppable with a 90 not out knock. Niranjan Yadav contributed 30 runs.
