RAIA: St. Rock Youth of Calata-Majorda defeated Curtorim Gymkhana 2-1 goals to emerge champs in Cavelossim Panchayat Trophy inter-village football tournament sponsored by Cavelossim Village Panchayat and organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at Fr. Drunston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim on Monday.
Nelister Silveira, Aliston Mendes missed easy scoring chances for Curtorim Gymkhana in the 5th and 7th minutes respectively.
It was Lenny Vaz who gave the lead to St. Rock in the 12th minute and Beevan D’Mello doubled it in the 48th minute.
In the second session, Joy Hilario reduced the margin for Curtorim Gymkhana.
St. Rock were richer by Rs 60,000 plus the trophy. Curtorim Gymkhana had to be content with a purse of Rs 40,000 plus a trophy.
Following prizes were awarded: Best goalkeeper – Shenoy Costa (St. Rock Youth). Best promising player – Jordon (Arlem YA). First goal of the final – Lenny Vaz (St. Rock Youth). Best midfielder – Nixon Castanha ( Curtorim). Best defender – Myson Fernandes (Curtorim). Man-of-the match Beevan D’Mello of Majorda.
Caitan Fernandes, GFA president was the chief guest and distributed prizes in the presence of Dixon Vaz, Sarpanch of Cavelossim, MLA Alex Reginald Lourenco, Parish Priest Fr Ubaldo Fernandes, other dignitaries and club officials.
Viano Rodrigues, president of the club welcomed. Being the birthday of Sarpanch Dixon a cake was cut during the interval. Viriato Mendes, secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.
