St Rock’s YC emerge victorious

CALATA-MAJORDA: Host St Rocks Youth Club lifted the 30th St Rock’s Trophy after defeating Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 3-0 , organised by St Rock YC, Calata-Majorda, at St Rock’s ground, Calata-Majorda, on Sunday. 
St. Rock’s almost forged ahead in the 10th minute butFlesban Ferrao failed to give the finishing touch to a cross from Lloyd Dias.
 In the 16th minute it was Flesban again but this time he made up for his earlier miss with a powerful placement shot to beat the DBO goalkeeper Swizel Pereira off a cross from Wendell Coelho to open the account. 
In the 23rd it was the St Rock’s goalkeeper Rolland Fernandes who saved a free-kick taken by Francis Andrade. 
At  lemon break the score was 1-0, in favour of Majorda team.
In the second half DBO Fatorda came out with new ideas and tried hard but could not beat the Majorda defence marshalled by Lester Vaz. 
St Rock’s doubled the lead in the 40th minute when Meuton Fernandes was brought down by Fatorda defender in the danger zone, the referee pointed to the spot without any hesitation, of the resultant penalty Kevin Almeida who took the responsibility was on target to make it 2-0. 
In the dying moments, Meuton Fernandes made the issue safe by scoring the third for his team off an assist created by Nelton Miranda. 
The winners were awarded cash prize of Rs 40,000 plus trophy while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 plus trophy. 
Oscar Gonsalves, Administrator of Sharada Mandir School, Miramar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Thomas Rodrigues, ex-Headmaster of DSE Panjim, Prakash Gracias prop.of Wild Orchid Open Air hall and Asst. Parish Priest of Majorda Fr William D’Souza.
