CALANGUTE: St Savio Sports Club, Calangute scored a hard-fought solitary goal victory over Parish Youth Nuvem in the finals to claim the top spot in 1st All-Goa Vailankani inter-village football tournament organized by Vailankani Sports Club, Morjim at Morjim ground, Wednesday. There was no score at half time.
After an exciting goalless first half, St Savio forged ahead in the 40th minute through Blake Haldankar.
Stunned by the reverse, Nuvem went all-out in search of the equalizer and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but their forwards failed to get past the rival defense. Jose and Presley worked overtime to put their team on level terms but they failed to beat agile St Savio goalkeeper Marshal. St Savio also came close to scoring but the Nuvem defense kept Calangute forwards Domnic, Bruno and Francis at bay.
St Savio took home Rs 30,000 while Nuvem had to settle for Rs 20,000.

Health and Panchayats Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Prashant Walke, Anuradha Morje, Babli Mandrekar, GFA executive – committee member, Jovito Rodrigues, David D’Souza, Bharat Morje and other dignitaries.
