PANJIM: St Savio SC had a tough 4-2 win over Youth Club Manora in the GENO First DIvision League organised by Goa Football Association (GFA) played at Navelim ground on Sunday.
Sanket Jotkar was the star performer for the winners, while Roston D’Costa and Oscar D’Souza were on the score sheet for the Manora team who gave the table toppers a tough fight.
St Savio SC were finally able to open their scoring at the half hour mark when Clayton Luis placed in a loose ball to striker Sanket Jotkar who neatly placed it into the post making it 1-0.
On changing sides, Manora came out all strong and made it all square in the 54th minute throgh Roston D’Costa. But their joy was short lived as Sanket Jotkar added another quick goal two minutes later. YC Manora were not looking to give up as U-20 player Oscar D’Souza neatly finished the ball into the post as they came from behind once again to make it all even, 2-2.
Post the hour mark, St. Savio SC began to control the ball in the midfield area and moved forward creating a couple of chances. They finally managed to shoot into the lead yet again through Sanket who completed his hat trick in the 68th minute.
He further inflated his teams lead with a neat placement into the nylons in the 80th minute again as the Manora team failed to make a comeback into the game as the Calangute side took away all three points in an evenly contested game.
In another game played at Sirsaim ground, A.A de Moira beat Goa Velha SC by the similar margin, 4-2. The Goa Velha team were the first to look at gaol and were successful as Francis Fernandes opened the scoring for the day in the 16th minute. On the other side, Rohit Totad made it 1-1 at the half hour mark.
Craig Menezes netted in two quick goals before the half time as they lead 3-1 at the break.
Arun Naik pulled one goal down for the struggling Goa Velha team in the 53rd minute, but this was too late as Craig Menezes went on to complete his hat trick in the 85th minute as A.A de Moira picked up their third win in the league gathering a total of 9 points while the Goa Velha SC are yet to get to winning terms in this league after 6 games.
Elsewhere at Ambelim ground, Cuncolim Union overcame Curtorim Gymkhana 4-1.
