NAGOA: St Savio SC defeated Youth Club of Manora 2-1 in the Goa Football Association inter district 2nd Division play-off match played at Nagoa ground, on Saturday.
The first half was dominated by YC Manora but the teams went into the break with scores tied a 0-0. In the second half however St Savio were back on the feet and scored two quick goals to dominate the rivals. YC Manora scored a late consolation goal but were unable to find the equaliser.
The first chance of the match fell to Ivon Costa of YC Manora in the 6th minute after Socoro Colaco, defender of St Savio SC failed to clear the ball but Ivon’s shot ballooned over.
With YC Manora’s Ivon making runs inside the rival box got another chance in the tenth minute however the striker failed to tap in the sitter.
St. Savio had their rare chance at the goal in the first half though Aaren D’Silva however striker’s shot from close range went a begging in the 25th minute.
As the match progressed, YC Manora missed the two best chances of the first half as Ivon Costa ran down the flank and created an opportunity for Swizel Pereira who took his time and shot towards the goal but the rival pushed away the ball to safety in the 39th minute.
Soon afterwards, Ivon received a beautiful cross from his teammate but the former’s downward header missed the net of St Savio SC as the rival keeper was equal to the task in the 45th minute.
Post resumption, St Savio drew the first blood through Socoro Colaco’s placement shot off Joston Pereira’s connect in the 56th minute.
Aaron D’Silva later headed in to make it 2-0 for St Savio SC after he received a fine cross from Mathew Colaco from the right flank in the 80th minute.
Within a minute YC Manora pulled one goal back through substitute Jorson Fernandes but couldn’t find the equaliser as the scoreboard read 2-1 in the favour of St. Savio SC at full-time.
