PANJIM: St. Savio Sports Club blanked Curtorim Gymkhana 4-0 in the GENO First Division league in association with Jhoncy Restaurant Benaulim, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Sirsaim ground, on Sunday.
Curtorim Gymkhana came into the game after a 1-1 draw with YC Manora, while the winners, St. Savio beat Salgaocar 2-1 in their previous outing.
With this win, St. Savio SC sit at the top of the league table with 24 points from 10 outings while the Curtorim side have 11 points from 9 outings.
The game got off to a good start with more of midfield play. Both sides controlled the ball and kept moving forward trying to break through the rivals defence. The deadlock was finally broken in the 34th minute when Vellington Fernandes eased past the defenders and kicked the ball into the post to make it 1-0.
Shashank Naik made it 2-0 just before half time as they went into the breather with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
On changing sides, Sanket Jotkar added another to his teams tally in the 48th minute as the Curtorim side failed to impress in the second half.
The Calangute team dominated proceedings completely in the second half as they went on to make it 4-0 in the 75th minute as the St Savio side continued their impressive run in the league.
