VARCA: St Sebastian Union Benaulim defeated Carmona SC 4-2 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Varca Panchayat Cup, organised by Varca Sports Club, at Varca ground, on Wednesday.
Three minutes into the game, Yuri Ferrao of Carmona should have netted the first goal of the match but the rival cross bar denied it.
Joel Fernandes of Benualim tried a solo effort but Aston Vaz of Carmona blocked his move.
There was no score in the first half.
Crossing over, both teams missed their best chances in the second half. Carmona through Raju Cardozo in the 47th minute and Benaulim through Joel Fernandes.
In the resultant tie-breaker, St Sebastian Union Benaulim netted through Osburun Fernandes, Joel Fernandes, Rizwan Ratos and Declan Carvalho while for Carmona Sports Club, Eldrin Viegas and Joyson Estebeiro scored.
St Sebastian Union Benaulim will meet the winners of St Anthony Sports Club Colva and Sarzora Sports Club in the quarter-final on November 9.
