MARGAO: St Thomas High School, Cansaulim, edged past Fatima High School, Ponda 2-1 to move into the final of the district level of Boys U-17 Subroto Mukherjee football tournament, organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at DSYA ground, Cuncolim.
In the first half, Rio Rodrigues dribbled past a host of defenders and placed the ball in the net in the fifth minute. Five minutes later, Rio Rodrigues created a chance for Preston Colaco who made no mistake to double the lead for St Thomas. Rio Rodrigues had another chance to score a brace but a rival defender thwarted him. St Thomas led 2-0 at half-time.
In the second half, St Thomas High School dominated the proceedings and tried to add to their 2-0 lead but the defence of Fatima High School stood firm to deny their strikers. Fatima High School, Ponda, reduced the margin in the 53rd minute.
