PANJIM: St Xavier College, Mapusa grounded Rosary College, Navelim 2-0 in the final of women’s inter-collegiate football championship organized by Goa University, at University ground, Taleigao plateau, recently.
The teams started on a cautious note and the ball was confined to the midfield in the first session.
After a barren first half, St Xavier showed purpose and surged ahead five minutes later through Valencia Rego.
The goal boosted their confidence and soon, St Xavier’s made it 2-0 through a long range effort from Jenny Silva in the 55th minute.
Rosary college tried hard to make a come back but failed to create any clear openings through their strikers.
Elvis Gomes, President of Goa Football Association was the chief guest and presented the medals and trophies to the finalist.
