AMBELIM/PERNEM/VERNA: St Xavier’s trounced Sharada Higher Secondary School 12-0 in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament, on Wednesday, with Shubham Naik (four goals) and Osric Trindade (three) emerging as the stars.
High scoring remained the order of the day in all 10 matches even as the tournament spread its wings to two more venues, Ganeshpuri Sports Complex and Father Agnel’s ground.
Cuncolim United, Don Bosco, St Anthony’s and Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce (GCASC) also recorded big wins in qualifying matches in different categories.
Altaf Navaloor (five goals) was the star for Cuncolim as they demolished Vidya Vikas Academy 8-1 at Ambelim. Sharing the top goal-scorer of the day honours with Altaf was Don Bosco’s Anthony Fernandes (five goals) in his team’s 7-1 win against Holy Cross High School, Bastora 7-0 at Ganeshpuri in the junior boys category.
Ashley Rodrigues (four goals) and Josh Rodrigues (three) turned in an impressive display as St Anthony’s dismantled Father Agnel Central School 7-0 at Verna.
In the only college boys game held on Wednesday, Kunal Salgaonkar (three goals) and Mark Barreto (two goals) were the heroes for GCASC in their 7-1 success over SSA Govt College of Arts and Commerce, Pernem at Ganeshpuri,
St Rita, Rosary High School, Our Lady of Grace High School, Kendriya Vidyalaya Bambolim, St Joseph’s were the other winners in junior boys.
