While St Xavier’s College defeated PCCE, Verna 2-0, Fr Agnel got the better of Government College, Quepem (GCQ) 2-1 in the semis.
In the first semi-finals, St Xavier’s looked the better side from the start. The Mapusa College didn’t take long to open their account as Rudresh Tendulakar scored in the 8th minute to give them the lead.
PCCE tried their best to find the equaliser but their strikers failed to beat the stubborn rival defence.
The Mapusa College led 1-0 at the break.
Crossing over, Sylvester Dias doubled the lead in the 53rd minute with a sublime finish.
In the second semi-final, Fr Agnel College, Pilar rallied to beat the Quepem College 2-1.
Government College, Quepem College started the match on the front foot and scored in the 9th minute trough Macklon Colaco. GCQ led 1-0 at the breather.
Post resumption, Pilar came back strongly and levelled terms through Suraj Hadkonkar, whose free-kick gave no chance for the rival keeper.
Goaded by the equaliser, the defending champions pressed hard in search of the match winner and finally succeeded in the 77th minute when Ronil Azavedo coolly finished with a deft placement.
The final will be played on September 21 at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, at 9.15 a.m. This will be a repeat of last year’s finals, wherein Fr Agnel beat St Xavier’s 1-0.
