PANJIM: Over 900 athletes will take part at the 2-day 45th State athletic championship organized by Goa Athletic Association (GAA) in association with SAG and collaboration with DSYA and NYK on February 19 and 20 at Campal grounds, here from 8 a.m.
GAA president, Francisco Sardinha, MP addressing a press conference here, today, disclosed that the meet will be held for men, women and under-14, under-16, under-18 and under-28 age groups with even athletes from far flung talukas like Canacona, Sanguem, Dharbandora, Quepem and Valpoi being specially invited due to their talent, which needs be given appropriate exposure.
“We have made special lodging and boarding arrangements for athletes coming from far off places at Youth Hostel, Mira Mar. Young boys and girls from remote areas will get an opportunity to compete with our elite athletes so as to boost their confidence,” stated Sardinha.
“There is a record number of entries from schools from all over Goa and this is a very good sign for the development of athletics. Elaborate arrangements have already been finalized with general secretary Paresh Kamat taking care of details under the guidance of vice-president Anita Rodrigues,” said Sardinha who pointed out that there will be stiff competition given the excellent achievements of our boys and girls at various inter-school and national athletic meets recently.
