MAPUSA: Sudeva Delhi FC managed to edge past Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the Reliance Foundation Development U-21League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.
Sudeva Delhi FC colts time and again attacked the rival citadel through their strikers Jaideep Singh, Freddy, Haodamlian and medio Kamginsei Touthang but Mumbai City last line of defence marshalled by stopper backs Mohammed Kaif and Nikhil Shinde along with wing backs Arsh Bagwan and Tanush Pandey failed to bulge under pressure. Skipper custodian Ahan Prakash stood tall under the bar to collect all the rivals’ goal bound strikes.
While Sudeva Delhi FC did most of the attacking in the 32nd minute in a counter attack a fierce strike by Mumbai City’s Seilenthang Lotjem was blocked by Sudeva goalkeeper Wahengbham Singh with a full stretched diving effort only to find striker Ahan Sharma, who was lurking nearby slot the ball home, 1-0.
Sudeva Delhi FC continued on their attack but Jaideep Singh tap went just past the goal post while Daniel Gurung’s smart header was swayed for a corner by keeper Ahan.
However, finally, before going for the breather, Sudeva Delhi FC equalised in the 47th minute. A hot-blooded shot by Daniel was blocked by keeper Ahan and the ball rolled to Prajal Tushar who slammed the ball into the net, 1-1.
Hardly had the spectators taken their seats on crossing ends, Sudeva Delhi FC’s Haodamlian Vaiphei latched a fierce grounder which was blocked by Mumbai City keeper and off the rebound this time Haodamlian crossed the ball to unmarked Kamginsei Touthang who slotted the ball past the helpless keeper 2-1. In the next minute, a thundering shot by Daniel was fisted for a corner by keeper Ahan. Mumbai City did try to find their equaliser but all their attempts went in vain, to find their rivals return home with a win.
