PANJIM: Sudhakar Patgar, from Vasco beat Rudresh Fadte in final round to clinch the 9th MTCA Chess League title, scoring six points out of six rounds in the standard format.
The tournament was held on April 1 and 2 at Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco, under the auspices of Goa Chess Association.
Altogether 53 players participated in the two-day event which was played under standard format of Swiss league system.
With Sudhakar’s win in the 9th match, the close contender to the league trophy –Anirudh Parsekar has been put on hold –as he is leading with four matches out of nine matches played so far. Anirudh has to win one more match in remaining 3 games to be declared MTCA League 2016-17 champ, which has made the league very interesting till its last match.
In another match, Yash Paul beat Ganpule Utkarsh in last round to settle on runners-up position by scoring five points, whereas Bhimappa Harijan finished third with five points.
Chief guest Ulhas Joshi, former headmaster of St Joseph and Ashok Parab, Head of Business Consultant-Udyog Guru gave away the prizes in the presence of Kishor Bandekar, secretary of GCA, Mukund Kambli, Pundalik Nayak vice president, Sujit Bandekar and Swapnil Hoble.
Other prize winners: Morajkar Navin (5), Fadte Rudresh (4.5), Parsekar Anirudh (4.5), Akhilesh Nigalye (4.5), Saidas Fotto (4.5), Sadanand Rawal (4), Ganpule Utkarsh (4).
Other age category winners: U-15: Peroz Antoniolee (4); U-13: Sahil Desai (4), Dhanpal Mishka (4); U-11: Kalangutkar Sai (3), Vrishti Naik (3); U-9: Kalangutkar Shubh (3.5), Valanka Fernandes (3); U-7: Sawant Shreyansh (1), Naik Drishti (2); U-5: Aarush Salgaonkar (2).
