Salgaocar had overcome Sporting Clube by the same score line just four days back and so the Flaming Oranje were determined to make amends.
The match took a sour note in the 64th minute when James Fernandes of Sporting Clube and Salgaocar substitute Domnic Soares were given their marching orders for an off the ball incident.
Sporting Clube was further reduced to nine-man in the closing stages when Jarmanjeet Singh was sent off for his second book able offence.
Sporting Clube had a first look at the goal when midfielder Quan Gomes tried his luck from 30 yards as the ball whistled just past the post.
At the other end, Salgaocar’s best effort fell to Naro Shrestha who could not make enough contact with the ball as he went for a volley.
After the lemon break, Salgaocar left back Raja Rawat came close to breaking the deadlock when he overlapped down the flank and tried to catch the Sporting Goa custodian off guard with an explosive chip. Moments later Salgaocar substitute Liston Colaco rattled the post with a stinging drive.
As the match progressed Sporting Clube started to threaten and look menacing. In the 66th minute Sumeet struck a low drive which took a wicked deflection off a Salgaocar defender, altering the trajectory of the shot and ended up flying in to the back off the net. Sumeet raced away to perform a front flip in delight as he was congratulated by his team mates in front of the team bench.
