PANJIM: Suresh Pujari and Riya Gaonkar emerged junior boys and girls singles champions respectively, at the Taluka Level badminton tournament for Ponda and Dharbandora Taluka, organised by Antruz Art and Sports Academy in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association and DSYA, at Multipurpose Hall, Ponda, on Sunday.
The Khandeparkar duo, Satej and Kushal, triumphed in junior boys doubles while Aryaman Saraf edged out Om Parodkar to win the sub junior boys title.
Soham Shet (U-19 boys), Siya Kakodkar (U-19 girls) and Suresh Pujari / Akash Velingkar (U-19 boys doubles) had to settle for the runners-up spots.
The top 4 in singles and top 2 in doubles have qualified for the District level tournament which will be held in April.
Ramdas Saraf, managing director, Jaywant Tyres, Ponda was the chief guest, Sandip Heble, secretary, Goa Badminton Association, Nishad Bhakle, Sachin Sukhathankar, president, AASA, Rajesh Kukalyenkar, secretary AASA were present for the prize distribution function.
Winners were presented with prize money cheques, mementos, medals and merit certificates.
