RAIA: Suyash Naik Gaonkar triumphed in the Daji Sonawane Memorial Rolling Trophy Canacona Taluka Chess Tournament held at Shri Shradhanand High School, Poinguinim, recently.
The intense competition witnessed remarkable displays of strategic prowess as Suyash emerged as the tournament’s champion, showcasing his exceptional skills by scoring an impressive 6.5 out of 7 points. Shivam Raikar secured the second position with a commendable 6 points, closely followed by Komarpant Saurav, who clinched the third spot, also with 6 points.
The prize presentation function was graced by notable dignitaries, including Savita Tawadkar (sarpanch Poinguinim and Principal Balram Residential School) as the chief guest; Sunil Painginkar (Dy Sarpanch Poinguinim); Harsh Sonawane, Rajendra Sonawane (chief manager of SBI), Sharendra Naik (president CTCA), Viju Naik Gaonkar (treasurer CTCA), FA Swapnil Hoble (chief arbiter) and SNA Tanishq Kavlekar (Dy chief arbiter). Around 94 players from Canacona taluka participated.
