CHINCHINIM: Sports and Welfare Club of Zaino got the better of host Sirlim Sports Club by 9-8 to enter in the final of the 21st Our Lady of Merces inter-village football tournament organized by Sirlim Sports Club, at Our Lady of Hope church ground, Chinchinim, on Saturday.
In a high scoring match – both the teams were tied at 4-4 in the normal time.
SWC Zaino scored three quick goals in the first 25 minutes. It was Perryson Fernandes who opened the scoring off corner taken by Premson Fernandes. Later, Samson Simoes doubled the lead off Jade Colaco’s assist. Premson Fernandes made it 3-0 in the 24th minute.
At the stroke of the breather, Merrilio Fernandes reduced the margin for Sirlim SC.
Post resumption, Premson Fernandes scored the fourth goal and his brace for SWC Zaino. Down by 4-1, Sirlim SC put up a gallant display of attacking football and scored three goals in span of just six minutes.
Sunny Simoes scored brace and Salvador Rebello accounted one goal for Sirlim SC.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, SWC Zaino proved to be better shooters than Sirlim SC.
