Taekwondo Federation of India gets recognition

PANJIM: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has granted recognition to Taekwondo Federation of India as a National Sports Federation for the promotion and regulation of taekwondo sport in India.

The annual recognition to the Federation (TFI) was not renewed after 2014 due to the compliance/management issues with the Federation.

It was the Delhi High Court that on April 28, 2022 took note that the TFI was an unregistered body and that the taekwondo in the country was suffering and that the genuine taekwondo players were not getting the opportunity to represent the country.

In the interest of taekwondo, the High Court passed directions for holding of fresh elections to the Executive Committee of TFI so as to enable the Union Government to take expeditious steps for recognising as a suitable federation as the National Sports Federation for taekwondo.

The elections were held with Justice G S Sistani as Court Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer and the following office-bearers have been duly elected: President Dr Ishari K Ganesh, Secretary General  R D Mangueshkar, Treasurer Jasbir Singh Gill. Consequently, the Delhi High Court accepted the elections and recognised the Federation for the promotion and development of taekwondo in India with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, the newly elected TFI Secretary General, Mangueshkar, who was the president of Taekwondo Association of Goa (TA) for almost two decades, stated that the elections of TAG Executive Committee were already held except for the post of the President and that Navin Pai has been elected as the Secretary. “Once the issue is settled, the problem of recognition by SAG, GOA and TFI will be formalised,” added Mangueshkar.
