PANJIM: Tanish Tendulkar struck the only goal as St Britto’s Mapusa emerged unscathed as Bardez taluka under-14 football champions against St Joseph’s Calangute at Duler grounds, Mapus, Thursday.
With both teams tied goalless at half time, it needed a piece of brilliance of a combination from Varadh Halankar and Tanish Tendulkar to break the deadlock.
Starting a move from the halfway line in the 10th minute of the second half, Tendulkar picked up a beauty of a pass from Rish Pawaskar after being fed by Halankar, to dribble past the Calangute school defence and place into the goal for the match-winner.
The goal awakened St Joseph’s as they threw everything into attack mode in an attempt to get the equaliser. But the St Britto’s defence was well looked after by Tyler Rodrigues and Ritvik Santosh as the Mapusa boys in blue scampered home.
This was a huge statement from St Britto’s as they not only stayed unbeaten, but also won the taluka-level competition without conceding a single goal.
