Tanisi sweeps triple crown

Wins the finals of sub junior, junior girls and ladies; Anshuman and Sneha clinch cadet boys and girls titles; Wesley emerges champion in junior boys and men

PANJIM: Tanisi Kirtani clinched triple crown by emerging champion in the sub-junior, junior girls and ladies category at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Table Tennis Championship 2016 held at the Polygon Hall, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Miramar, recently. 
Playing in the all three finals, Tanisi exhibited supreme skills as she defeated Prutha Parrikar in straight sets 11-4, 11-0,11-6 in the sub junior girls. Playing the same opponent in the junior girls and ladies, Tanisi once again got the better of Prutha 11-3,11-3,11-5 and 11-6,11-2,11-3 respectively. 
“It feels good to win in all the three categories, this tournament was exciting and I look forward to participating next year,” said Tanisi.
Anshuman Agarwal outsmarted Nagesh Verenkar in straight sets 11-6,11-9,11-9 in the cadet boys while Sneha Mesta defeated Najida Sheikh 9-11,11- 7,14-12,11- 9 in the cadet girls after overcoming her first match blip.
In the sub junior boys, Nagesh Verenkar beat Shantesh Mapsekar 11-9,13- 15,11-6,12-10 while in the junior boys Wesley Do Rosario outplayed Karthik Iyer 11-7,11- 9,3-11,11- 5.
With all eyes on the men’s final, Wesley Do Rosario came out triumphant over Diljeet Velingkar 3-11, 11-7, 11-1, 11- 8,  3-11, 11- 9. The fans were entertained as both players went into long rallies.
In the veterans singles, Noel Noronha beat Ajit Ghantkar 10-12,11- 9,11-6, 8- 11, 11-5 while in doubles Xisto Fernandes and Satish Agrahar defeated Dinesh Shetty and V Raikar 11-8,11- 7, 5-11, 8- 11, 12-10.
The tournament included 10 categories U-12 (cadet girls and boys), U-16 (sub junior girls and boys), U-19 (junior girls and boys) men’s singles, ladies singles, veteran singles and doubles.
President of Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Yogesh V. Nadkarni presented the awards to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Secretary Rajesh Khaunte, President of Goa Table Tennis Association Vero Nunes, Secretary Vishnu Kolvalcar and Aakash Khaunte, Sport Committee Chairman, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias.
