PANJIM: Goa’s 10-year-old table tennis sensation Tanisi Kirtani added yet another feather to her cap by capturing the cadets singles crown at National Ranking Table Tennis Championship held at Siliguri, Bengal, recently.
Earlier, on two occasions she had won the bronze medals. It was sweet revenge for Tanisi in overpowering currently ranked India No.1 Swatika Ghosh of Maharashtra in a hard-fought match at 3-2.
On earlier occasion, at Ghandidham, Gujarat, Tanisi had lost to Swatika after leading 5-1 in the final set.
The finals set between Neha Kumari playing with the support of vociferous home crowned at Siliguri (which is known as Mecca of table tennis in India) proved to be a pulsating affair with fortunes tilting either side going to full distance of seven sets, saw ultimately Tanisi triumphing over Neha Kumari to the satisfaction of many Goans, who were seeing the match live in Goa.
Vero Nunes, president of Goa Table Tennis Association congratulated Tanisi for her stupendous success and expects Tanisi to become the face of India with her near perfect style of aggressive play, with due encouragement to be given by the government of Goa and corporate houses.
