Tanvi, Gunjal excel at National chess

AGENCIES, GUJARAT: Goan lass Tanvi Vasudev Hadkonkar fought her way up in final rounds and bagged bronze medal while Goan Woman Chess Master (WCM) Geno Brand Ambassador Gunjal Chopdekar secured fourth position at the 32nd National U-13 open and girls chess championship, organised by Gujarat State Chess Association, in Gujarat, recently.
 In the final round Gunjal, playing against board leader Dhyana put up a strong battle and earned a point ending the match on a tie.
 Tanvi and Gunjal both finished on 8.5 points at the end of round 11, however, the former won the tie-break point. 
Meanwhile, Woman Fide Master (WFM) Dhyana Patel of Gujarat emerged winner with 9.5 points and WCM Kriti Mayur Patel of Gujarat bagged the second sport with 9 points.
 Tanvi, who was lurking on the 17th position at the end of round 7 with five points fought her way past in the remaining four rounds grabbing maximum 3.5 points out of possible four, taking her final points tally to 8.5 points.
Tanvi beat WCM Chinnam Vyshnavi from Andra Pradesh in the final round to grab the third spot. Earlier, she beat Shrija KM Vijayasubhasri in round 9 and 8 respectively and drew with Velpula Sarayu of Telangana in round 10.
In open category, Goa’s Om Barde scored 7 points though he defeated Champion Aaryan in the fourth round he could not maintain pace with higher rated player in remaining rounds. 
Devesh Anand and Swayam Naik finished with 6.5. 
In girls section, Sayuri Naik finished with 6 points and Charuta Shetye with 4 points.
