Tejan, Dhruv, Kapil win double crowns

MARGAO: Margao Suttlers stole the show as Tejan Fallary, Dhruv Angle and Kapil Kanji won double crowns each at the second All-Goa Major Ranking Badminton tournament organized by Margao Shuttlers Club, at Multipurpose hall, Fatorda, recently.

Tejan was in cruise control as he romped home to a comfortable 21-10, 21-12 win over Sanath Kamat to win the Under 19 boys singles title. Dhruv Angle won his second title in succession in the under 17 boys singles event, beating Aashrun Gautam 21-15, 22-20. 
Later, Tejan and Dhruv teamed up to score a scintillating 21-19, 21-19 upset win over top seeds Navneet Nasnodkar and Sanath Kamat to register their maiden win in the Mens Doubles category. Tejan who was vying for a triple crown put up a valiant fight in the Mens Singles finals before losing out to top seed Parteek Mahajan. He lost 14-21, 21-7, 7-21 in a pulsating three set contest. 
Kapil Kanji edged out Sandeep Kanji 16-21, 21-18, 21-16 to win the Veterans 40 + singles event. Kapil and Sandeep Kanji partnered to emerge Veterans 40 + doubles winners, beating Ayoob C. K and Dr Sandeep Fowker 21-16, 21-5. The Veterans 45 + doubles was won by Vaman Fallary and Vinayak Kamat who beat Ayoob C. K and Oscar Afonso 21-19, 21-17. 
Emerging Player Prizes were awarded to Parth Kantak, Simran Pathak, Rudra Dukle and Lydia Barretto.
There were more than 250 entries in the championship which was conducted by NIS coaches Roy Athaide and Vinayak Kamat. Ms. Prita D.  Mallya, Principal of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, Narahar Thakur, Goa Badminton Association (GBA) Secretary, Vaman Fallary, organizing President, Oscar Silveira, organizing Secretary, and GBA officials Sandeep Heble and Peter Tellis graced the prize distribution occasion.
