PANJIM: The boxing matches of the 37th National Games of India are in full swing at the Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa, on Friday. On the third day of the event, three more boxers from Goa secured their spots in the quarter-finals, bringing the total number of Goan boxers in the next round to 10.
In the Elite Men 48-51kg Fly category, AK Roshanzamir of Goa defeated Anchit Sharma of Delhi through RSCI (RSC-Injury). In the Elite Men 67-71kg Light Middle category, Rajat of Goa won against Malsawmkima of Mizoram by a unanimous point decision of 5:0. Rajat showed his superior skills and technique in the ring and outboxed his opponent in all three rounds. In the Elite Women 48-50kg Light Fly category, Sakshi of Goa won against Kalpana of Haryana by a score of 5:0. Sakshi put up a good fight against her opponent securing her spot in the quarter-finals.
The other boxers from Goa who have qualified for the quarter-finals are Lokesh (Elite Men 75-80kg Light Heavyweight), Sai Ayush (Elite Men 86-92kg Heavyweight), Niharika (Elite Women 57-60kg Lightweight), Chanu Sanamacha (Elite Women 70-75kg Middleweight), Panda Prahlad (Elite Men 54-57kg Feather), Chouhan Gaurav (Elite Men 92+KG Super Heavy) and Jampula Shrisha (Elite Women 63-66KG Welter) made it to the quarter-finals.
On Saturday, November 4, in the Elite Women 54-57kg Feather Alina D’Souza will face Aarti Mehra from Chandigarh. In the Elite Men 60-63.5kg Light Welter Goa’s Akash Gorkha will fight against Manipur’s Rohit Ningehougan.
