MARGAO: Pinto’s Youth Club Baradi eased their way past Canacona SA with a 6-2 win in the GFA U-14 League match played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Wedensday.
Tinon Fernandes was the hero for Pinto’s YC netting a fine hat-trick while Jeldon Fernandes, Nash Fernandes and Jovan Fernandes also got their names on to the scoresheet for the winners. Oligson Fernandes scored a double for the Canacona team.
Beginning the match on equal fronts, both the teams played attacking football in the opening minutes of the game and it was Canacona SA to score the first in the 15th minute when Oligson Fernandes dribbled past the entire Pinto’s defence with his pace and slammed in the far corner. Canacona SA’s Oligson was the only standout player in the side and he lacked support from his teammates.
At the other end, Pinto’s YC, who played rather as a unit netted two goals in the 27th and 31st minute through Tinon Fernandes and both the assists were provided by Jolison. Pinto’s YC led 2-1at the breather.
Crossing over, Pinto’s YC netter their third through Jeldon Fernandes who headed in Jovan Fernandes free-kick. At the other end, Imran R had the best chance for Canacona SA to score when the Pinto’s YC poor free-kick landed straight at his feet just outside the penalty area, but the lad failed to make the best of the opportunity as he shot wide much to the dismay of his teammates. But Oligson scored his second in the 51st minute.
However, there was no chance of a comeback as Pinto’s YC continued to attack and scored three more goals Nash, Jovan and Timon who completed his hat-trick in the second half.
In another match at Quepem ground, Tilamola United win ten-goal thriller against Wilfred Leisure Sports Club.
Paston D’Costa’s four-star display was the highlight of the evening for Tilamola United as he not only contributed proving the goals but also played a part in setting up the other two for his teammates–Ashwell Peixoto and Samuel Peixoto.
The first half was a cagey affair as both the sides scored one after the other. Paston opened the scoring in the 17th minute but the lead lasted just for two minutes as Elton Mascarenhas equalised fro Wilred Leisure in the 19th minute. Paston scored his second in the 22nd minute and completed his hat-trick in the 26th minute.
Asher Fernandes pulled a goal back for the losing side in the 28th minute. Samuel scored the team’s fourth for Tilamola United before Asher pulled another goal back for Wilred Leisure. The winners led 4-3 at the breather. Crossing over, Ashwell and Paston scored for Tilamola while Macnelle Dias netted for the losing team.
