Tivai Vaddo clinch Adolf memorial trophy

PANJIM: Tivai Vaddo outplayed Saunta Vaddo 6-4 via the tie-breaker in the final to emerge champions in the Adolf Silveira memorial rolling trophy Calangute inter-ward football tournament organised by St Peter Boys.

Tivai Vaddo led 1-0 at lemon break. Tivai Vaddo broke the deadlock in the 15th minute of play through Savio Rodrigues’ 25-yard free kick. Lawrence Rodrigues assisted. 
Changing over, Saunta Vaddo pushed hard for an equaliser which came in the dying minutes from Namresh Kundaikar off a cross by Agnelo Fernandes.
At the end of regulation time, the teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Lawrence Rodrigues, Savio Rodrigues, Melton Lobo, Santan Rodrigues and Stanley Coutinho were on target for Tivai Vaddo while Agnelo Fernandes, Jaideep Palyekar and Deep Govekar converted for Saunta Vaddo.
Earlier, Agnelo Silveira, organiser introduced the chief guest Sandeep Kalangutkar, programme officer, Kala Academy; guests of honour Michael Lobo, MLA Calangute Constituency; Fr Cipriano Da Silva, parish priest St Alex Church, Calangute to the match officials and players.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000 plus trophy while runners-up were richer by Rs 10,000 plus trophy. 
The chief guest, guests of honour and special invitees gave away the prizes. Other individual prizes awarded were: Upcoming player of the tournament Macan Pereira (Porba Vaddo), first scorer of the final Savio Rodrigues, player of the tournament Santan Rodrigues, Man-of-the Match Stanley Coutinho (all Tivai Vaddo), Best Midfielder Deep Govekar, Best forward Namresh Kundaikar (both Saunta Vaddo), Best goalkeeper Selwyn D’Souza, Best defender Bernard Silveira (both Tivai Vaddo).
Also present for the final were Gajanand Kerkar, president, Calangute Association; Alex Fernandes, ex-president Calangute Association; Digamber Haldankar, ex-Salgaonkar football player; Anthony and Abelina Menezes, former ZP members, Calangute.
Sudesh Shirodkar compered while Vicky Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
