Tournament to be dedicated in memory of Parrikar

TALEIGAO: In a wonderful and a unique tribute to the former Chief Minister of Goa late Manohar Parrikar,  the Goa Chess Association have decided to dedicate and rename their Goa International Open Grandmaster Chess tournament to ‘Late Shri Manohar Parrikar International Chess Tournament’ henceforth.
Speaking during the prize distribution ceremony of the 2nd Goa International Open Grandmaster Chess Tournament, GCA President Nilesh Cabral not only announced the third edition of the tournament but also delivered a great news for Goa and India and said, “We have a great announcement to make as from next edition the Goa International Chess Tournament will be known as The Manohar Parrikar International Chess Tournament 2020 and from now on it will be an annual event.”
“Our former CM Manohar Parrikar had helped us a lot to organise the first edition of the Goa International Tournament last year and because of his support we had soon announced the second edition. He isn’t with us now, but his love for sport has made us to carry on his dream and love for chess in Goa. Parrikar had been guiding force to Goa and he has been guiding force to India as well. Well this it is the smallest thing we could do as we could do,” explained GCA President Nilesh Cabral.
“Our team has been working efficiently to take this tournament to a next level. What we (GCA) all do is for the sports and for the betterment of Goa and this country. We will settle all the small issues we encountered and make the next edition even better,” added Nilesh Cabral.
“I am very happy with the decision of Goa Chess Association to rename the tournament to Late Manohar Parrikar International Chess Tournament and to acknowledge our former CM who was also the defence minister of India. We will support this tournament in future and will take it to new heights so that it will always be remembered. In some years, Goa will not be only known for football but also for chess and I believe Nilesh Cabral will make it happen,” said Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant.
