Sporting’s Trejoy Dias lost his cool after being sent off in the final of GFA U-20 TACA Goa match against Goan FC and punched the match referee Tejas Nagvekar. Trejoy Dias was flashed the direct red card by referee Tejas Nagvekar in the 21st minute for leg breaking tackle on Young Gaurs skipper Sarineo Fernandes inside the Goan FC penalty box. Trejoy reacted violently and shoved the referee who in turn retaliated by pushing him. In return Trejoy punched the referee with fist-blows, who needed medical attention which was provided by the field doctor to control the bleeding.
It has been learnt that a police complaint has been registered against the player by Tejas at Mapusa Police Station.
When contacted GFA Vice President Lavino Rebello said, “The player will be suspended immediately. GFA’s executive committee will stand for the referee. No player will go scot free after assaulting the referee and the most stringent punishment will be imposed on the player after going through the match commissioners and referee’s report,”
“The player stands suspended from all football related activities organised by GFA including the inter-village tournaments and action by the Association will be followed after the inquiry,” added Lavinio.
